Pilates is a great exercise system regardless of what type of sport or physical activity that you engage in. Those that have spent years practicing the art of Yoga have found the workout of Pilates as challenging and rewarding. Fitness buffs that are into bodybuilding, weight training or weight lifting have also found better stamina, strength and flexibility when using the Pilates workout. There are no age restrictions, physical limitations or anything else that would prevent anyone from using the Pilates system to improve their overall health and strength.

Every exercise of the Pilates fitness exercise system involves the control and concentration of the mind to use every muscle effectively. There are not jerky or strenuous movements because the Pilates workout uses gentle movements to build strengthen and improve the bodies health. Many exercise workouts are strenuous, rigid and end up getting the individual injured. As we all know when you are hurt or have injured a muscle or body part, there is no working out for a while. By strengthening the core muscles, meaning the abdomen, back side, legs and other extremities the body is better able to function during the game. Speed, balance, posture and better overall health can be achieved by using the Pilates workout. After only a short period of time results can be felt and seen. Baseball players have found that Pilates helps them increase their throwing distance, running ability and reduces tiredness incredibly. Football players, soccer and track runners also report great benefits from using the Pilates workouts.

If losing weight or burning fat is the goal and why you have turned to the Pilates workouts, it is more than capable of that as well. Pilates is a low impact exercise, but it has big results. The heart rate is elevated and the movements are more precise making you less tired. That does not mean that there is no soreness or tiredness after the Pilates session, but it is reduced because the exercise system is so effective. Many times the person engaging in Pilates wants to continue after a class or DVD because they feel so good! Pilates also helps with balance, posture, back, neck and many other aches that people suffer with. This is attributed to the stretching and strengthening of the Pilates workout.
